What Happens When I Visit Dr. Cook’s Office?

All new patients begin their treatment with an initial consultation to assess their health and condition. The doctor asks detailed questions about the patient’s medical history, along with what ails them. After which, she will perform the diagnostic procedures of pulse and abdominal palpation. During this time patients should share their concerns for treatment during the consultation. The data gathered from these procedures help create a proper treatment plan with herbal prescriptions and acupuncture.

You start by scheduling a 20-30 minute video conference with Dr. Cook. Next, you must answer some forms designed to give the doctor a clearer picture of your health. During the consultation please be as detailed as possible when you describe your condition.

How Can I Get My Herbal Prescriptions

Which Herbs Treat Common Ailments?

Cinnamon

Cinnamon is a spice shaved from the inner bark of the trees of the genus Cinnamomum. The trees are usually found in South America, South East Asia, and the Caribbean. It is high in antioxidants, which prevents cell damage. Cinnamon also strengthens the immune system to fight off viral and fungal infections. Finally, its anti-inflammatory properties can offer relief against coughs and sore throats.

Ginger

Ginger is a flowering plant commonly found in Southeast Asia. Its anti-inflammatory effects may help in relaxing the membranes in a patient’s airways. Consequently, it can bring relief to patients suffering from sore throat and coughing. Bacterial infections may cause patients to develop a fever or diarrhea. The herb contains the bioactive compound known as Gingerol, which hinders the growth of bacteria. Its antioxidants can also promote stomach health and soothe stomach aches.

Drinking Ginger tea can soothe sore throats, reduce coughing, and ease stomach pains caused by diarrhea.

Lavender

Lavender is a flowering plant of the mint family found in Northern Africa and the mountains of the Mediterranean. It has an anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) effect comparable to Lorazepam and Paroxetine. In addition to reducing anxiety Lavender is also effective in treating the secondary symptoms brought by anxiety such as sleep impairment and headaches.

Lavender can be used topically with oils or orally by drinking the tea.

What are the Different Types of Herbal Medicine?

Raw form

This is the quickest and most effective way of taking herbal prescriptions. This form of therapy starts by giving patients a prescription of raw herbs such as twigs, roots, leaves, bugs, shells, mushrooms, berries, and even insects to boil in water to create a decoction. Consulting with a qualified professional ensures the patient’s safety by being given the proper herbs and dosage. This method is a potent way of tackling health issues because it offers immediate results when compared to other methods

Granules

Granules are commonly known as powders. They are made by binding concentrated liquids of the decocted herbs to an excipient. Excipients stabilize the active ingredients of the medication to give it longer shelf life. Granules can make consuming herbs easier because herbalists can dose out the specific amount required to put in hot water. Many patients choose this method to reduce cooking time.
